Students who want to study A Level Drama and Theatre do not have to have studied GCSE Drama, but it is a good foundation for the course. What is essential is that you enjoy working with people, have a good imagination and are creative!
In Year 12 we will study ‘Equus’ by Peter Shaffer, acting out different roles as we explore the text and approach the text as designers too, from lighting to sound.

We will look at various theatre practitioners from Stanislavsky to Frantic Assembly and the students will devise a group piece inspired by stimuli, linking it to a practitioner they have studied. They also write a portfolio to support their devised piece.
An integral part of the course is going to see live theatre (Covid restrictions permitting) and being situated in the heart of London means we have access to some of the best theatre in the world, from West End shows, to smaller fringe productions.

As well as the course, we have a Drama Club and the opportunity to audition for the school musical or play. We encourage the whole school community to get involved, as we know that not only can you hone your acting and communication skills but it also helps build confidence and teamwork.
Over the holiday, it would be good to try and read at least one play of your choice and to see at least one play, there are now many available on line in the links above. We suggest:
- Small Island
- One Man, Two Guvnors
- The Tempest
- A Doll's House
