You are advised to buy a copy of the OCR A-Level textbook that covers both years of the course. This can be seem below. Additionally, the Sixth Form will provide you with login details to access all contents of this textbook online via the Kerboodle platform.
Year 12
Within the first year of your A-Level Chemistry studies you can expect to complete the content of Modules 2-4 and an outline of the teaching schedule for a typical year is shown below:
Year 13
Within the second year of your A-Level Chemistry studies you can expect to complete the content of Modules 5-6 and an outline teaching schedule for a typical year is shown below:
Summer Preparatory Work
Fundamental to the study of chemistry at A-Level is the ability to 'count the invisible'. How do we count atoms and get the reacting quantities correct when carrying out chemical reactions?
You should all now understand that we have to count things by weighing and the concept of moles of substance and the Avogadro's number are at the centre of this...
The Year 12 course will begin with a lot of work in the first half of the autumn term that is related to quantitative chemistry. This will also involve a lot of practical work on titration and gravimetric analysis. To best prepare yourself for the start of the autumn term you should:
- Look back at all the work you have done on moles and quantitative chemistry within you IGCSE/GCSE course.
- Read pages 6 - 52 of the OCR text book and makes your own summary notes on these pages.
- Tackle the summary questions that appear throughout the pages.
- Complete the following questions and problems. You can submit your answers to me at the start of the autumn term.
Best of Luck!
I look forward to meeting with all of you A-Level Chemists in September...
