As preparation to start the course, you should purchase
Life Ascending: The Ten Great Inventions of Evolution by Nick Lane. Profile Books.
A number of the chapters are directly relevant to A level biology, but you should read the DNA chapter as it will be helpful with one of the first topics of the course.
